Pink

Pantone chooses an "it" color each year and for 2011 it's Honeysuckle.  A bright, cheery shade of hot pink.  As temperatures plummet in Missoula and the wind howls, sitting in a pink room or digging my toes into some pink sand on a beach in Bermuda sound pretty nice.

Yesterday the NYT House and Garden section claimed that this pink trend is taking a cue from Mamie Eisenhower and the "Mamie Pink" that become the iconic color of the 1950's home, especially bathrooms.

I've definitely experienced a period pink bathroom or two in my life and I can see the argument for the light being soft and flattering, but somehow a shade of pink that looks pretty on a wall just seems totally saccharine and over the top for tile, bathtubs, sinks and toilets.  Right? Maybe the modern-day reinterpretation would have really shiny chrome hardware and black accents.  Here's Brooke Giannetti of Velvet and Linen's reinterpretation of a Mamie pink bathroom:

My thoughts on picking up this trend in 2011 lean more towards injecting a little Pantone Honeysuckle into our neutral/yellow/black living room with these David Hicks print pillows from Furbish Studio:
