In the Raw [food]

March 27th

I've always understood the benefits of eating raw vegetables every day, but I never really bought into the raw food movement. I figured I didn't have the time to prepare elaborate raw food meals , or the money to buy the ready-made raw meals at the health food store. But then I stumbled across an article in Domino Magazine last month about Zoe Sakoutis, who has started a company called Blueprint Cleanse and it herself a "raw foodist until dinner." Hmmmm, raw food and then one warm, fragrant meal at night? I was intrigued. Sakoutis offered recipes for breakfast, lunch and two snacks, all of which I'd like to try eventually. This past week, I gave her breakfast recipe a go. So you're looking at a slice of manna bread with a schmear of raw almond butter, Blueprint Pudding and fresh berries. I am completely enamored with this meal to the extent that I don't even mind pulling out the food processor to make the pudding.

So what's Blueprint Pudding? Bananas, an avocado and Medjool dates. To make enough for one person to eat for breakfast for 2-3 days, try 2 bananas, 3 pitted and sliced dates, and half and avocado pureed in a food processor. Store it in the fridge with plastic wrap touching the surface to keep it from turning brown (eck). I found manna bread (barely cooked a a low temperature and really good) and raw almond butter at the health food store.

Wow. I love the idea of Blueprint Pudding! Wish we had a health food store in town. I have a feeling that Medjool dates are not on the shelf at Kroger or Walmart.

Maybe not, but it seems like it's high time the Deep South decided it isn't allergic to healthy food. Maybe you should open a health food store!

I think it would still be great without the dates..
