Remember when the skunk sprayed my sweet dog in the face? (Ok, ok, she chased it) No? That's because I was too traumatized to blog. To add insult to injury, the damn thing seems to live in the disused, mostly dried up waste lagoon from the days when the farm was a dairy. Looking up the road from Isabel in Saturday's photo, that's the curved gray structure beside the road. Quite close to our cottage. We caught a whiff on the return from our evening walk and climbed up the wall to look down on this critter. Thank goodness it didn't see us.

By the way, don't let anyone tell you that tomato juice works for getting de-skunked. It works partly and leaves the unfortunate victim sticky and smelling of....tomato juice. Try the home remedy we Googled: 2 quarts of hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap. Mix it up, use in a hurry, let it sit on the dog for 10-15 minutes, don't let it get in eyes/nose/mouth.

I want to move to Norway.
I am really disappointed that my country, the USA, "the richest nation" did not play the part of global leader by taking steps to protect the biodiversity of plants.
Check out the new Global Seed Vault in Svalbard.
