I don't know about you, but sometimes I wake up with the itch to cook a big, ambitious meal. Usually I'm also totally exhausted by the time we sit down to enjoy it, but it's worth the effort. That's what happened this past Sunday after I paged through last July's issue of Gourmet (damn you, Conde Nast! Sniffle, sniffle) and Alice Water's The Art of Simple Food.
Here's what was on the menu:
Corn and tomato scramble from Gourmet. The whites of scallions sauteed in a little butter and then the corn tossed in really makes this more than just a corn and tomato salad.
A goat cheese souffle. More capricio de cabra. Fluffy heaven.
Honey Caramel Peach Pie. I forgot to take photos this time, but it looked just like this one from last summer. We feasted with the MM's brother and sister-in-law, who were in town with their 9 month-old daughter, Seddona. Good food is always better shared with good company.
Good company is also nice for doing the dishes while the cook collapses in a heap.
