Appropos of Nothing

So I think when my friend and bridesmaid Angie gets home from Austria, I'm going to borrow all four Twilight books from her. And then I really won't blog for awhile because I'll be totally sucked in (heh). Just to warn you.

I used to scoff at this whole mania for teen vampire lit, but there are apparently hordes of intelligent, professional adult women out there who're completely obsessed. And that makes it ok, right?

I made fun of everyone who loved Twlight for a good while. Then, a friend insisted I borrow them all from her, and I am now reading them voraciously. They are that good!

I am apparently a freak of nature because I barely made it through the first book - I am considering starting a support group for the 7 people in the world, who just can't seem to get into the Twilight series. . .

Well, who knows. I liked the movie in an "oh isn't this predictable but strangely compelling" sort of way. Maybe I'll have to join your support group though, MB!

The reason why teens and women alike get sucked in by the Twilight series is because the story allows the reader to suspend the reader's disbelief long enough to love an ideal guy vicariously through an average teenage girl: Bella Swan. The high school aspect tips the scale and gives every female the chance to relive those formative years in Bella's shoes.
In the creation of Twilight, Stephanie Meyer has made a tiny speck of an idea into an entire universe. In this way, the many pages of historic vampire details can seem a little dumbed down at times, much like reading the background of so many characters in the Harry Potter series.
If you really want to be blown away into the Sci-Fi realm, read Meyer's new book, "The Host." There are many similarities between The Host and Twilight, but The Host proves to be a much more complicated novel, and is also part of a blossoming series.

I thought it was below me for the longest time.

I'll be honest. It's not brilliant writing. It sure does suck you in, though!
