More Details on the Chopper Boy

I met Chopper the pup almost two months ago when my mom and I visited a friend of hers in Nelson County, VA. As we pulled up to the farm, our car was immediately surrounded by at least 12 dogs of various kinds (the lady of the house has a soft spot for abandoned dogs). Chopper was right in the midst of them and immediately caught my eye.

When the owners of this wild pack tried to convince my mom to take one of the dogs home with her (she and my dad have been dog-less for 5 years now since our old Basset Hound, Genevieve died), I said, "What about that one?" and pointed to Chopper. He hopped right into my lap, gave me a lick and snuggled up. I at least was sold, but Mama was not, so we went home with only Isabel.

I kept thinking about Chopper, so this past weekend when they offered to let Steve and me adopt him, we were thrilled! He is so smart and has adapted to his new routine without any fuss. As of this morning, he and Isabel are rough-housing, playing tug-of-war and generally enjoying each others' company. This is just what we hoped for in terms of a playmate for Isabel.

Chopper is still very much a puppy and needs some training, so I'm going to have to dig up my puppy books from several years back and remember how this all goes. Priority #1 No more jumping up on people (not that he can put his little paws very high) and #2 No more eating cow poo. Oh farm life : )
